Acoustic emission

Acoustic Emission (AE) is a non-destructive testing technique used in monitoring structures or components for flaws. This is done by mechanically loading the item under test either physically or by applying internal pressure to a vessel which forces the flaw to release energy. The energy release is in the form of stress waves that are detected by the AE sensors mounted on the item under test. AE has been used in the refining industry, chemical industry, power generation, manufacturing, pipelines, airline and paper process mills.
